Spatial biology – Where is my biomarker?

Bottom Line
Spatial biology could become the new frontier of life science tools after advances in genomic and proteomic analysis techniques. Spatial biology measures biomarkers expression while maintaining the spatial context, a feat that changes by orders of magnitude therapeutic biomarker discovery. The “Spatialomics" targets already a sizeable addressable market of $12bn, but it is still in the early stages and thus still under-penetrated; however, the launch of new products by 2022 could trigger further adoption.
We already have exposure to spatial biology in our healthcare portfolios. We are closely monitoring the sector, looking to take advantage of new players emerging or of potential partnerships/M&A that may occur.
