Alnylam’s APOLLO-B trial strikes at the heart

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (in our portfolios) soared this week after positive results of its APOLLO-B clinical study. This supports its novel RNA interference (RNAi) technology and potentially opens a multi-billion market opportunity.

Bottom line

Alnylam's Onpattro is a step closer to obtaining the green light from the FDA for cardiomyopathy, an increasingly common genetic heart condition with limited treatment options. The approval could significantly expand the company's addressable market, clearing its path to profitability.

The APOLLO-B clinical study was one of the most awaited readouts of the year. Such results, although yet delivering only a partial win, sent the entire sector up on the news. The company plans to present additional details from the study next month and submit the candidate for FDA approval by year-end.

The biotech industry is profiting from an increasingly embedded ecosystem of technologies that lead to expanded addressable markets and faster clinical success. Our Biotech 360° strategy is built to leverage this opportunity.
